It was a year dominated by different kinds of weather. It was a nice cool growing season with a spring frost and some rain mid-harvest. Light moisture in early October was followed by good drying conditions with sunny, breezy weather. The vintage weather conditions resulted in below average yields. The slightly smaller crop size and good harvest weather allowed us to pick the fruit with balanced sugar, acid and grape maturity. Overall, a very nice vintage. The wine was fermented in small lots using hand-crafted winemaking techniques and matured for 22 months in approximately 50% new and 50% neutral Taransaud French Oak Barrels. The wine was racked three times prior to bottling. We bottled in July of 2013 and released in Spring of 2015.
The wine has a beautiful dark ruby black/red color. The nose is all encompassing with a fruity bouquet packed with bright cherry, cocoa powder, spice aromas, hints of cedar and toast. The pallet is fresh, warm and sensual with savory textures and a chocolate/raspberry cream finish. Very lush and finishing long and persistent. Strong structure, combined with soft tannins and nice acid make this a truly lovely wine that is wonderful to drink today and will age for at least another decade!
