PIOCHO RANCH was acquired by Thomas J. Barrack Jr. in 1992. Out of a love for the countryside and a ranchers life, the Barracks developed rolling acres of vineyards and plenty of space for polo competition. The peaceful and expansive property sits nestled in the Happy Canyon Valley, a perfect location for growing grapes and riding horses.
Happy Canyon is a fairly new area for grape growing and the results from the Barrack property as well as the surrounding vineyards have been spectacular for Bordeaux varietals. The four wines: Ten Goal, Barrack Brand, Piocho, and Chukker have been hugely successful.
Apart from its beautiful vineyards, Piocho Ranch is a place where the game of polo is enjoyed by the Barrack family and its guests. The property has two regulation sized polo fields and is home to many powerful polo ponies.
Every year Tom and his son TJ Barrack participate in several prominent tournaments in England, Italy, France, Argentina, Florida and Santa Barbara.
In late summer, teams from all over the world gather in Santa Barbara to play in the famous Pacific Coast Open. Family, friends, and polo lovers come visit Picoho in the summer to watch exciting tournament play and exhibition games, boasting the worlds most skilled and famous players.
